DJR04399

The two-day Super High Roller attracted 51 runners at US$ 5,300 each for a prize pool of US$ 247,350. Sixteen players returned in Day 2, each one gunning for the US$ 91,520 top prize. After six hours of intense play, it concluded with France’s Leo Soma overcoming a huge deficit at heads up to deny Filipino Florencio Campomanes the title.

Recapping the race, among the nine players that fell without pay were entering chip leader Vincent Huang, and on the bubble, Czech Republic’s Roman Hrabec who fell to Soma with Ad4s two pair at the flop burned on the river by As6c higher kicker on a board Ah4cKc3hKd.

With the money intact, the pace was quicker with Brandon Hsien Ren Koh ousted in 7th place. Koh’s 5s5d were outdrawn by Gary Yongja Lin’s AsJc that improved to trips-Jacks. Mini High Roller champion Joshua McCully followed, also booted by Lin with Ace-King dominating Ace- Queen. Taiwan’s Justin Chi-Jen Chu fell next in 5th place with AcJd dusted by Soma’s KhJh flush on a board 7h2h5h9d5c.

Down to four players, Campomanes doubled through Lin with pocket Aces ahead of pocket Sixes. The momentum carried leading to the end of Shardul Parthasarathi in 4th place and Lin in 3rd place. Against Shardul, Campomanes check-called throughout a board Kc8s3d6s2h, Shardul shoved on the river with Qx9x bluff, Campomanes calles with Jx8x second pair. To eliminate Lin, it was all in at the flop 7s4d5d. Lin Jc8c, Campomanes with 9d8d. The turn 2s was no help to Campomanes but the river Jd gave him the flush.

This kicked off heads up with Campomanes ahead 70 bb to Soma’s 53 bb. It didn’t take long for Campomanes to drain down Soma but each time, Soma recovered with a double up. In total , Soma doubled up three times before the final hand. The first one he had 7h7s set beating AhKs on a board 7dQs5h3sAc. Next one was Ks4s two pair on the turn to stay ahead of 9s8h mid-pair. The third showdown, Campomanes had Ac2d, Soma with KsAh, a Queen dropped on the flop and held.

DJR04355Flo Campomanes

With Soma slightly ahead in chips, the pair engaged in a pre-flop war that ended with Soma’ five-bet shove tank-called by Campomanes. Soma dominated with AhKc over As6d, the board ran 9c9h4c3hQs.
