WPT Prime Cambodia: I-Chun Chiu leads Main Event Final 9! Chi-Cong Chao, Paul Judge win trophies, 56 survive HR 3K Day 1, reg still open; 17 remaining at Bounty

After three starting days followed by intense Day 2 competition, the Final 9 players of the Main Event was established! It was decided at the fall of China’s Yunsheng Sun in 10th place to France’s Matthieu Lamagnere with KdQh unable to improve against 9d9s.

The WPT Prime Cambodia Season XXI – MAIN EVENT – resumes on Monday, March 20 at 1pm. Unfortunately there is no livestream but players can track the action via the Live Updates on the WPT.com website.

At the top of the pecking order is Taiwan’s I-Chun Chiu aka Charlie Chiu with 82 bb. This is Chiu’s second final table having placed 8th at the Mystery Bounty. Chiu has a fairly comfortable lead over second ranked Matthieu Lamagnere with 62 bb. In third rank is Bien Mai, the only Vietnamese player left in the running and the only player with a series side event title. Mai is on his third final table.

Event 23: High Roller 3K – $250K GTD

Swell turnout at Day 1 of the High Roller 3K with 99 signing up to easily breach the US$ 250K guarantee. After 11 level of 40-minute blinds, 56 bagged up with Russia’s Timur Khamidullin amassing 132 bb. Khamidullin earned a majority of his chips on a double up through WPT decorated champion Vincent Chauve.

Earning second rank was India’s Pratibh Saluja who shipped a monster pile on a failed bluff by Gary Lin. Thailand’s Kannapong Thanarattrakul finished with the third largest stack. You can read up on the action via the Live Updates – High Roller 3K Day 1.

Big turnout at the Bounty Event with 252 on record for a prize pool of US$ 109,998. It was a grind to the end of Day 1. Estonia’s Roland Kivi delivered the bubble then the game played on until the end of Level 20. Seventeen players bagged up with Lee Jong Kyung in the lead with 93 bb. His closest challenger is Raju Jaruplavanath with 56 bb. Also returning for a second attempt at a trophy is Lucas Tae. 

The players return at 12pm on Monday, March 20. Each one is guaranteed US$ 1,018 with the eventual winner banking US$ 16,588. Second place will also score a five figure US$ 11,657.

Chi-Cong Chao wins the NLH Turbo Freezeout

The NLH Turbo Freezeout bolted through Sunday night in high speed with the event completing in seven hours. Taiwan’s Chi-Cong Chao outdueled France’s David Koy at heads up to claim the win and his first ever WPT trophy.

During bubble time, with 18 remaining and average at just 10 bb, big stacked Thomas Lind aka Totti railed Deep Raina (4 bb) with 10h10c dusting Kh7s.

With the money intact, player raced to reach a final table seat. Lind finished in 4th place, falling to Koy with Ace-Ten outdrawn by King-Jack, King on the board. Dongyun Jo fell next leaving Koy and Chao battling for the win. After several hands, both players opted to split the money down the middle. Chao went on to win it with As2s full house on a board 2c2d3h6c3c against Koy’s QsJs.

Exciting from start to finish at the Supersonic NLH / Liar’s Dice Championship. UK’s Paul Judge emerged the first winner in Cambodia to take home one of the WPT side event trophies and US$ 929. WPT Prime Cambodia, in partnership with Connaissance Management, runs from March 9 to 21 at NagaWorld Integrated Resorts in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. To date, twenty players have walked away victorious.
