Grand Loyal Poker Club’s ballroom was once again at full capacity with its Main Event Day 1B welcoming a staggering 292 players onto the field. Adding in yesterday’s (Day 1A) 187 entries, a total of 479 bullets have been fired, pushing the prize pool already past its VN₫ 8 Billion guarantee. Two more flights – Day 1C and Day 1D Turbo, are scheduled to run tomorrow, September 22nd for an estimated combined entry field of over 900 runners in the hunt for the massive top prize.

Day 1B Recap

DAC 3100Kim Beab Su

Today’s Main Event starting flight played down to 37 entrants led by Korea’s Kim Beab Su who bowed out in 14th place in the Mystery Bounty event after leading its Day 1B qualifiers. Already with a big stack, Kim soared to the lead after cracking KhKd with AdJh in an all-in preflop situation, two left to the money. Kim was running hot and continued to pile on chips as he delivered the bubble elimination a few hands later.

The hand began with India’s Ankit Wadhawan raising two-thirds of his stack from under the gun and Kim moving all-in, a seat after. Wadhawan made the call and revealed AcKh, way ahead of Kim’s KdJh. The flop however, ran JsJc5d to instantly crush Wadhawan and eventually send him out one spot short of the money. Local Dinh Tien Thanh’s patience on the other hand, paid off after he saved his half a big blind to make it through to Day 2 and be guaranteed the minimum payout.

Kim’s stack comes slightly above Main Event Day 1A chip leader Michael Kim Falcon’s 865,000 to lead the 60 qualified players moving on to Day 2.

WPC-SEAPT Event #11: NLH Freezeout: Hyunseung Lee – VN₫ 250,360,000 (~US$ 10,565)

DSC 2797Hyunseung Lee

The one and only freezeout event across the WPC lineup completed today after 111 players joined the festivities. With 14 of the field making the money, Korea’s Ham Dong Myung did not hesitate to pick up his opponent’s stack with 7d7s against AcJc on a board of 7hQcAhJd3h right on bubble time. The tournament’s 20 minute blind levels flew by fairly fast as stacks began to shorten, shifting the gameplay to a push or fold preflop.

Korean runner Hyunseung Lee soared to the top after he captured a huge advantage five-handed, clipping a three-way all-in with QcQs against Ac3c and Ad10d. Lee’s hot run continued on and he single-handedly eliminated all the remaining players to claim the victory and another WPC win for Korea.

Added Event: WPC-SEAPT High Roller Single Day: Nishant Sharma – VN₫ 679,500,000 (~US$ 26,676)

DSC 2782Nishant Sharma

With more players coming in time for the Main Event, an added single day High Roller tournament was added to today’s list for those catching up on the action. Posting one of the heftier buy-ins, only 35 entries were recorded with five players taking a share of the prize pool. The two tables running saw India’s Nishant Sharma consistently hold the lead from early in the game all the way down to the last five players. After the money was reached, ultra short stacked Ng Vu Huy and Gary Pound Thomas quickly bowed out in 5th and 4th place respectively.

DSC 2777

Three-handed play saw both Sharma and Michael Kim Falcon sitting with massive stacks, not until Chakravarthy doubled up with As2d against the latter’s JdJh did the gap slightly close. Falcon however, recovered a few hands later after calling off with mid-pair Ad8h against Chakravarthy’s check-jam with Ac9d on a flop of 3h8sQs. Falcon’s pair held and Chakravarthy exited in third. From then, Sharma managed to snag a slight lead before the final hand was recorded with both players all-in with Ace-high, Sharma with the better kicker.
