After ten full days of fun and exciting action at Grand Loyal Poker Club, the World Poker Championship has wrapped up its first chapter in Hanoi, Vietnam, having awarded over VN₫ 54.6B (~US$ 2,305,101) in prizes. The concluded 20-event lineup ran from September 16-25, 2022 and welcomed a grand total of 3,826 entries all throughout. This includes the festival’s record-breaking Main Event which attracted a 1,020-entry field for a smashing prize pool of VN₫ 17,809,200,000 (~US$ 751,126).
The last day on schedule saw three of its final side events draw to a close with France’s Leonard Yannick collecting his second trophy of the season. Vietnam’s own Teddy Pham was also once again gunning for a trophy with his fourth final table appearance, the most by any other player in the series. The local attendance similarly racked up outstanding results with seven of the 20 trophies awarded, lifted by Vietnam’s runners.

The crown jewel of the World Poker Championship saw a turnout unlike any other Main Event held in the country. A total of 1,020 entries were recorded across its four starting flights with its initial VN₫ 8 Billion guarantee already passed by the second flight on schedule. The generated prize pool blew up to a massive VN₫ 17,809,200,000 (~US$ 751,126) with VN₫ 3.2 Billion awarded to the champion.

After four days of play, Vietnamese pro Ha Manh Tuong collected the top payout and closed in as the festival’s biggest earner after defeating India’s Kartik Ved in heads up play.

Vietnam bags most trophies
Local presence across the World Poker Championship games was in full force as the country’s runners successfully bagged the largest prizes and most number of trophies by any nation. International players from Korea and France came in a strong second with each packing four event wins in total.

The only player of the series who managed to take home two trophies was France’s Leonard Yannick, who emerged triumphant in Event #4: Hyper Turbo and Event #16: Megastack Closer. Yannick also came in third at Event #11: NLH Freezeout, bumping up his total cashes for the series at a combined VN₫ 331,220,000 (~US$ 13,952).

While several players made multiple final table appearances, local regular Teddy Pham topped the counts with an impressive four final table showings. Additionally, Pham also ran deep in the 394-entry field Mystery Bounty event, finishing in 16th place. Pham’s total cashes for the series sits at a whopping VN₫ 2,328,231,970 (~US$ 98,072), placing him as one of the festival’s most profitable players.
