On Day 2, the 106 players who made it through the initial rounds were guaranteed a share of the prize money. Thirteen hours of intense competition then followed before the final table was formed. Russia’s Evgenii Chernyi racked up a towering 11,190,000 in chips, equivalent to 140x the opening big blind. His biggest hand was the elimination of Quy Ngoc Nguyen in 11th place with a straight on the turn crushing top pair / open ended.
The rest of the pack sits with 60 bb and below. At the top of that list is Malaysia’s Sua Shung Er who eliminated Anton Lu (20th), Sebastian Muller (18th), and The Van (11th).
One player thrilled to reach the final table was short stacked Phat Thanh Nguyen who was down to 1.5 big blind when he caught a rush to double up, triple up, then double up again to secure a seat.
An interesting note, for the first time all series, the final table is not dominated by Vietnamese. Instead there are three Singaporeans – Benson, Calvin Tan, and Benjamin Sai. Benson eliminated Huy Quang Dinh in 10th place to signal the final table.
