“I guess he’s watching the polls and I guess he’s watching the fact that the New York Times, the Daily News, the League of Conservation voters are saying that I’m the right person for the job,” Garcia said, clearly unfazed by Yang’s attack. Garcia’s rise may have been fueled by voters fleeing Stringer, who’s being accused of sexual harassment, which he denies. Other polling shows that the number one issue for New Yorkers is the rise in crime, which is solidly in Adams’ wheelhouse as a retired NYC police officer and explains his boost, though the race between him and Yang has been tight for months. Both candidates are now turning their energy toward attacking the new front-runner, Garcia. to learn more about the nyc mayor odds go to predictit.org

Does the Jan. 6 Commission Have Life in the Senate?
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D) – New York has said he will hold a vote on legislation to create a bipartisan commission to investigate the events surrounding the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6 before the Memorial Day recess – which could be today (or tomorrow if he’s willing to mess with senators’ travel plans). There were high hopes all around that this commission would materialize, but that fell apart last week after Republican leaders in both chambers came out in opposition to the existing legislation. It passed the House with every Democrat in favor and 35 Republican “defectors” but it’s stalled out in the Senate as Republican leadership hasn’t given its seal of approval.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has said that former President Donald Trump is “practically and morally responsible” for the attack on the Capitol, but warned his colleagues in a closed-door caucus meeting this week that approving the commission would hurt the party’s midterm message and make it less likely that they’ll regain the majority. He also told reporters that the commission is a “purely political exercise that adds nothing to the sum total of information.”
