After one week of pre-games, the Asia Pacific Poker Tour kicks off its $1,500 buy in Main Event at the Grand Ballroom of NagaWorld Phnom Penh. Highlighting the anticipated event is the $400,000 guarantee and the PokerStars shard trophy. It opens on Thursday, November 10 with the final table taking place on Sunday, November 13. Buy in is slightly higher than usual at $1,500.
This edition of the APPT Main Event is the first to be staged in Cambodia. Among the players that have won this prestigious title are Michael Soyza (2018 APPT Incheon), Florencio Campomanes (2019 APPT Manila), and Zong Chi He (2020 APPT Open Taipei), all three are present at the ongoing Cambodia festival.
Prior events have seen prize pools swell, sometimes over double the guarantee. To date, it holds the record for the largest field of 1,364 entries for a buy in of ~$1,100 set at the 2018 APPT Manila Main Event. In its category, it also amassed the single largest tournament prize pool in the region of over $1.2 Million.
Registered players will be given a 30,000 starting stack which is equivalent to 300 times the opening big blind. Day 1A and Day 1B will see blinds increase every 40 minutes while the Day 1C evening flight will increase blinds every 20 minutes. This is a single re-entry tournament which means multiple stacks are not allowed. Registration closes at the start of Level 11. For late-comers, signing up at the last second still gives you decent 20 BB stack. All Day 1 heats bag up at the end of Level 14.
Players advancing to Day 2 will enjoy a slower pace with blinds increasing every 60 minutes. If time permits, it will play down to the final table of 9 players. Make sure to check the schedule for all the details.
