APPT Cambodia 2022: Filipino pro Mike Takayama earns overall NagaWorld Kickoff chip lead; 46 advance to the final day

The first ever Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) festival in Cambodia was off to a smashing start with the NagaWorld Kickoff event drawing 299 entries over three starting heats. Day 1A pulled in an impressive 118 entries, Day 1B stormed in creating a larger 126 field, then the Day 1C Turbo flight added another 55 to the mix. With buy in at $300 each, the $50K guarantee was easily crushed. 46 players advanced to the final day and were now guaranteed a piece of the boosted $78,326 prize pool.

Earning the overall chip lead was Filipino pro Mike Takayama who surged at Day 1B, just before the bubble round. Tabled with Korea’s Namhyung Kim who had amassed a towering stack, Takayama won three pots against Kim nearly back to back and all without a showdown. The biggest pot saw Kim raise preflop, big blind Takayama defended, at the flop 9s6hQh, Takayama fired 80K, Kim called. On the 2c turn, Takayama jammed and won the 280k pot. The loss in chips dropped Kim down to second rank. Rounding out the top three was Day 1A chip leader Yu Qi Zhao.

Day 1B ended with Korea’s Wanki Baik falling to Australia’s Roy Khor Wai Meng with 8h8d dominated by AsAh. Other players missing the mark at Day 1B and Day 1C were Singapore’s Feng Zhao, New Zealand’s Hamish Crawshaw, and Taiwan’s Zong Chi He.
